The Author

Name: Kouhaku Kuroboshi (g)

Born: 1974

Sex: Male

Kouhaku Kuroboshi illustrates the Kino no Tabi series. According to an interview in Pafu 7/2003, he got his start because he had posted some artwork on his website, and was contacted by some people who asked him to do illustrations.

Kuroboshi also illustrates Sigsawa's other novel series, Allison as well as created character designs for the PS2 game, Summon Night.

Kuroboshi has drawn art for the novel series, the PS2 game, the DVD covers, and many other illustrations. He is also responsible for the character designs of the Kino anime series. You can see more of his artwork from sources as well as numerous original artwork in his artbook, The Beautiful World, published by Mediaworks with an ISBN of 4-8402-2296-7. The artbook is hardcover with heavy, high quality card stock and is about 100 pages of color and black-and-white illustrations.

A final note: I believe Kuroboshi uses a pen name. After all, "Red-White Black-Star" doesn't sound like any typical Japanese name I've come across, especially not since "Kouhaku" is also the title of NHK's annual New Year's music show.
