A Tale of a Traveler: You was first published 3.30.2005. It is about 80 pages long and has a price of 3600 yen. The ISBN number is: 4-8402-2897-3. This is a visual novel, and comes with a region 2 DVD containing the short (30-minute/Entama) version of the Kino no Tabi movie, Nanika wo suru tameni.

The Book

The book is not quite as high quality as Their Memories. The paper is thick paper, not cardstock. The main reason is that Tale of a Traveler contains over twice as many pages as Their Memories but is about the same width.

The first part of the book is the story part of the novel. The story starts, "When I first met the traveler known as Kino, I was still living in the country of my birth..." In short, it starts off exactly the same way as both Country of Adults of novel 1 and The Gentle Country of novel 2. However, this time around our narrator is a young boy meeting up with Kino and Hermes. Kino and Hermes convince him to travel around the world on a little dirt bike. Like the first visual novel, the pages are well illustrated, although character illustrations are rarer than scene illustrations or little pictures of objects.

The second part of the book is the art portion of the novel, containing lots of text-free artwork, including the cover art for the Japanese DVD re-release, promotional artwork for the movie, illustrations from novel 7 and 8, illustrations from the PS2 game, and some illustrations from Dengeki HP that were used for the alternative version of Kino no Tabi in which Kino and Shizu are at a high school. (Uniform Kino is cute.)

The DVD

The DVD comes in a little jacket in the back cover and contains the short (30 minute/Entama) version of the Kino no Tabi movie. More information, along with a detailed summary, can be found in the Anime section.
