Their Memories: Kioku no Kuni was first published 12.25.2003. It is about 50 pages long and has a price of 1800 yen. The ISBN number is: 4-8402-2525-7. This is a visual novel, and comes with a short audio cd containing several tracks from the television series.
The Book
The book is very high quality. It's hard cover like the artbook, but with really nice, heavy, textured card-stock (at least 60lb) paper. The book contains an original story called "Kioku no Kuni ~ Their Memories" and details another of Kino and Hermes' adventures. The pair find themselves in a country with absolutely no people. They find a library, and the sign says that the country is the guard for memories, which are supposedly contained within the books - except Kino is unable to read the text in them. They also discover a stack of discs, sadly old and cracking. In on box (in a box in a box in...) was another disc, more protected than the others - but there was no machine to read the disc. So the two left. The last page details how about a year later, another traveler visited the country. In the last few sentences it describes the dog who travels with him - it's Shizu and Riku! There are illustrations on about every other page, although they're in style with the novel in that many of them are light sketches of artifacts, such as the discs or the books described in the story. There are, however, some nice landscape pictures of the country and some good images of Kino and Hermes, as well as a closing image of Shizu and Riku.
The CD
The cd comes in a little jacket in the back cover. Described on the cover belt as "uptempo music" it indeed does not contain the more somber-toned songs, but does have a nice, if light, mixture of songs by Ryo Sakai. Kino sings a song at the end of track 6, and you can find lyrics to that in the media section. The only disappointment is the addition of the Beautiful World at the end - since I already have the single, it's rather superfluous. The cd contains the following 8 tracks and plays for about 30 minutes:
「東の城門」 - The Eastern Gate
「人々」 - Everyone
「祈り」 - Prayer
「祭り」 - Festival
「夜と朝」 - Night and Dawn
「くりかえす」(「パッヘルベルのカノン」より) - Repeating (from Pachelbel's Canon)
「西の城門」 - The Western Gate
「the Beautiful World」(歌:前田愛) - The Beautiful World (sung by Maeda Ai)
